This symposium is expected to attract participants from clinical, research and community audiences whose work incorporates the use of mid-level providers in an interdisciplinary manner to eliminate health disparities.

The following learning objectives have been established to guide the presentations and discussions of the symposium.

  1. Define the significance of mid-level providers in the elimination of health and health care disparities;
  2. Characterize the complex interplay between social, cultural and biological factors as determinants of health disparity;
  3. Provide practical, evidence-based strategies for the clinical management in addressing the key disparate areas of treatment and prevention;
  4. Describe innovative best practice approaches in the prevention and treatment of key disease indicators and the different strategies of addressing health disparities at multiple levels, (e.g. public health policies, clinical trials, community-based interventions);
  5. Discuss race concordance and its relationship to communications and health outcomes; and
  6. Describe the importance of cultural competency and health literacy as key components in resolving health and health care disparities.
